Witnessing her plight, Isa was driven to explore affordable alternatives and stumbled upon the innovation of Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSB). Introduced to this cost-effective building technology by his Kenyan friend, Mr. Ahambo Kevin, he established Bamusalim Services Ltd with a brand name SmartFundi. His mission is to transform communities by constructing low-cost, climate-resilient homes for low-income individuals.

Armed with knowledge gleaned from his internship at Technology for Tomorrow, Isa Kamuhangire set out to make a tangible difference. A testament to his dedication, within a decade, Isa utilized his mother’s modest savings to construct a three-bedroom home for her. Remarkably, the total cost amounted to only 18,346,000 Ugandan Shillings, granting her the pride of homeownership after enduring immense hardship. Isa’s education not only provided him with expertise but also became the bridge that empowered his mother to achieve her dream of owning a home. She embodies the aspirations of over 50% of Uganda’s low-income earners who believe homeownership is beyond their reach, trapped in the cycle of rental poverty.
